There are no grading standards in the U.S. for coconuts.  

Select  Coconuts heavy for their size. The milk should be heard when the coconut is shaken, or it will be dry, make sure no mold is present, and that the eyes at the base are not wet or pierced.  

Coconuts are usually marketed without their husks. Should it become necessary to husk one, set the coconut upright, small pointed end down. Using two shovels, back to back, place the tips on the stem and pry husk apart.
