grown mostly in Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio,
North Carolina, and 7 other states; size medium to large; skin smooth,
rather thick, often nearly completely covered with rather dull mixed red
or rather indistinctly striped with dull carmine, light russet dots often
rather large and conspicuous, striped effect more noticeable in less
highly colored specimens; flesh tinged with yellow or slightly greenish,
firm, moderately fine-grained, tender , crisp, juicy to very juicy,
aromatic, sprightly, pleasantly medium acid; fine all-purpose apple.
