June; average crop 10 million bu.; grown mostly in Washing- ton, Illinois,
Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, and also in 12 other
states; size medium to large; skin bright yellow or golden, rather tough,
and may be shiny, velvety or russeted; flesh white often with yellowish
tinge, crisp, fine- grained, juicy, moderately low acid, mildly aromatic;
fine for eating out of hand; especially good for salads because it does
not turn brown; and excellent for cooking.
