Baldwin Harvest mid-September through October, mainly September
25 to October 25; marketing season mainly October through December, but
some fruit marketed to June 1; average crop 3 million bu.; grown mainly in
New York, New England, Michigan, and Ohio; size above medium and some-
times large to very large; skin tough, smooth, light yellow or greenish
blushed and mottled with bright red, indistinctly striped with deep
carmine, prevailing effect bright red; flesh yellowish, firm, moderately
coarse, crisp, rather tender, juicy to very juicy, agreeably medium acid,
sprightly, somewhat aromatic; good for dessert and salad; extra good for
pie and sauce. About 75 percent are sold to processors.
