Runner peanuts have become the
dominant type since the introduction of the Florunner in the early 1970s,
which has much higher yields. They account for 72% of total U.S.
production. Their uniform size makes them an excellent choice for peanut
butter. In fact about 54% of the crop goes to peanut butter. Many of the
rest are used in candy. Runners are grown mainly in Georgia, Alabama and
