Chia seeds come from a member of the sage plant family not
well known outside of Mexico and the Southwestern United States
except for their use as novelty pet sprouts (Chia Pet).
Sprout aficionados find the pungent taste of these sprouts
add flavor to sandwiches breads and point to their high trace-mineral
content.
Sprouting time is usually 1 or 2 days and reaching a
length of 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
