Vermilion Snapper (Rhomboplites aurorubens)

Smaller than the Red or Silk Snappers this snapper is found in the offshore reefs from North Carolina to Florida, south to Brazil and east through the Bahamas.

Distinguishing characteristics are its basic red color with brown stripes running forward and downward from its back and yellow lines on its sides.

The flesh is not of the quality of the larger snappers although it is a good pan frying fish.
