Sometimes the name Cero is applied to the King Mackerel but the true Cero is a different species of fish.

A fatty fish of equal quality to the Spanish mackerel with fine flesh and an excellent flavor.

Found from North Carolina to Brazil this is the next to the largest Mackerel (excluding Tuna) reaching a weight of up to 100 pounds but most are most are between 3 and 20 pounds.

The King has more red mussel than Wahoo, Spanish Mackerel or Cero with more fat and a stronger flavor.

Season   most plentiful November to March

Sizes  3 to 100 lbs, . The best sizes are 3 to 4 lbs.
