Bass,
mullet,
drum
and
croaker are all included in this grouping. Bass is a general term
which has been applied to many fresh- and salt-water fish which are
actually unrelated as far as species goes. The one thing they all have in
common however, is their fine-grained, firm flesh.
This family also includes the Pacific white sea bass and Atlantic
spotted, speckled or
gray sea trout. Although confusing, these are not truly related to
true bass or trout. The
kingfish
is another species of drum, as is the silver perch.
