Average length 10-16 inches, some to about 35 inches. Average weight 4 pounds. New Zealand only: Brownish grey with fine longitudinal black lines. Shape oval, with short rostral hook on upper jaw. Most common in south New Zealand, where it is caught in depths down to 100 meters as a by-catch from trawling. A very small resource, seldom available for export.

Flesh similar to turbot. Apricot colored or white, whitens on cooking. Delicate texture and flavor.
