Chili powder is ground dried chilies with added flavors such as ground cumin, oregano, garlic and clove.  Some store grocery brand powders will have a considerable amount of salt.  Chile powder and chili powder are different. 

Chile powder is pure ground chile peppers. 

Chili powder is a mix and has a broader flavor profile.
