Black Chanterelles, Poor People's Truffle, Tropette des Morts and Corne
d'Abondance (French), Totentrompete (German)
Charcoal-gray and horn shaped. Also known as the Horn of Plenty and trompette
des morts, it is a forest mushroom found in autumn. Despite the
German and French names, both of which mean "death trumpet," this is a

earthy flavor and is available fresh and dried.
Black trumpets are more delicate than the
chanterelles that it is related to and is often used in fish and veal
dishes.
