Tufts  originated in California and was introduced in 1972.  The large fruit is long, flat and conic with skin of bright red and tough, the flesh is orange red, firm, ripens earlier than Tioga but remains in production longer and the productivity is comparable to the Tioga.  Planted throughout California.
