Canary-eyed Rock Fish (Sebastes rubberimus)Yelloweye Rockfish, Pacific Red Snapper

The Canary-eyed Rock Fish, commonly known as the Red Snapper on the Pacific Coast, found throughout western coastal waters of North America.  This sport fish is caught off reef structures using jigs, bait, spoons and various other lures.  The rock fish has been known to reach over 20 pounds but average 5 to 10 pounds and are brilliant orange in color.  The Alaska State Record Yelloweye is 37 pounds and 36 inches in length. The very old ones fade in color from bright orange to a pale yellow.
