Grenadier Macrourus

With a mild flavor the white flesh of the Grenadier is
often compared to that of Cod but sweeter. The texture is lean, medium
moisture and
flaky.
The long slender fish has an almost eel like appearance
and ranges in length from 2 to 2 1/2 feet reaching a weight up to 5 1/2
lbs. The Grenadier is found in the sub arctic to temperate waters on
both sides of the Atlantic, from Greenland to Iceland and Northern Norway.
In the Western Atlantic they are found off Newfoundland, the Grand Bank,
Nova Scotia, and the Georges Bank and 20 species are found off the coast
of New Zealand.
