Vermicelli ver-mih-CHELL-ee Italian for "little worms", is Very thin, round pasta strands similar to spaghetti, but slightly thinner. Vermicelli seems to have been a perfectly normal way of saying "little worms" in Italian for several centuries, and the first recorded instance of the word in the sense of foodstuff dates from the mid seventeenth century. Serve it with very light sauces, or break up the rods and serve the pieces in a broth. Sometimes used to describe a clear Asian pasta made from rice, arrowroot or mung-bean flour.
