variety
is
a
main
cultivar
in
eastern
orchards,
but
not
considered
productive
enough
for
the
west.
This
German
variety
came
to
America
by
way
of
England
and
has
a
large
,
dark
mahogany
color.
This
variety
is
roundish
and
flattened
on
the
ventral
side,
with
a
slight
swelling
along
the
suture..
The
skin
is
thick
and
tough,
surrounding
meaty
firm
flesh
of
wine
red
color.
The
flavor
is
sweet
and
rich
but
rather
astringent.
