Lambert originated in Oregon under a Royal Ann tree and was planted by Henderson Lewelling about 1848 in the orchard of J.H. Lambert.  The tree is medium large, vigorous, productive, branches smooth, dull reddish brown with leaves of about 41/4 inches and 21/2 inches wide.  Fruit matures in mid season, 1 inch in diameter, color very dark red changing to reddish black, skin thin, flesh dark red with a small amount of dark red juice, meaty, firm, pleasant flavored, sweet, of very good quality. In California the fruit matures late, about 15 to 20 days after the Bing.
