Black Tartarian  grown in the eastern states this variety originally came from Russia by way of England where it was first planted in 1794.  The production is small due to its too soft texture that makes it hard to handle during harvesting and marketing.  The fruit is heart shaped, less than 1 inch in diameter, purplish black with purplish black with purplish red flesh and dark colored juice.
