Deer Tongue,
or Matchless, is a very old Heirloom that was popular with pioneer
families because of its productivity
that is still grown for its delicate, sweet flavor. Of medium size, 7-9"
loosely rosette-shaped heads have long, somewhat triangular and pointed
light green leaves that do resemble what one imagines is the shape of a
deer's tongue. Deer Tongue is also very cold tolerant, making it a good
reliable all-season lettuce for most areas.
