Soy sauce is a brown watery liquid made from roasted soybeans, grain (usually wheat) and a mold starter or mother. After a few days of fermentation brine is added as well as yeast and a lactobacillus starter  (the kind used in making yogurt). The mixture is aged up to two years, then strained and bottled.
