Abundance
developed
in
Iowa
and
Idaho
in
1953.
It
is
grown
mostly
as
a
summer
crop
in
the
North
in
the
same
area
as
the
Yellow
Globe
and
Downing
Yellow
Gold.
This
variety
is
a
good
yielder
and
has
out
produced
the
Yellow
Globe
over
the
years.
In
the
West
the
yields
are
somewhat
less
than
the
Spanish
onions,
but
keeps
better
in
storage
and
is
more
disease
resistant.
The
bulbs
are
high-globe
shape
with
medium
yellow
scales.
The
flesh
is
firm
and
has
a
pungent
flavor.
