Abundance developed in Iowa and Idaho in 1953.  It is grown mostly as a summer crop in the North in the same area as the Yellow Globe and Downing Yellow Gold.  This variety is a good yielder and has out produced the Yellow Globe over the years. In the West  the yields are somewhat less than the Spanish onions, but keeps better in storage and is more disease resistant.  The bulbs are high-globe shape with medium yellow scales.  The flesh is firm and has a pungent flavor.
