Ruby The red-fleshed variety originated as a bud
sport from the Thompson. It was found by Albert E. Henninger of
McAllen Texas in 1929. The original tree was obtained by him in
1926. In the 1929 Thompson crop Mr. Henninger noticed a fruit with a
crimson flush on the rind and colored flesh. Buds from the sport branch
were propagated and produced fruit like that of the branch. The
variety was patented by Mr. Henninger in 1934, and is thought to have been
the first citrus fruit patented.
