Grass Pickerel

The Grass Pickerel is a relatively small member of the Pike family, Esocidae that very seldom exceeds 12 inches in length

The Grass Pickerel is not quite as colorful as its cousin the redfin pickerel. Grass pickerel are often mistaken for young northern pike, but can be distinguished by their fully scaled cheeks and gill covers.

Grass pickerel prefer heavily vegetated areas of slow-moving streams, lakes, and ponds.
