Solo originated in Barbados, British West Indies, where G.P. Wilder of Honolulu purchased a single fruit and sent the seed to Hawaii.  J.E. Higgins named it, implying that the fruit is adequate for one person.  The Solo is approximately 6 inches long and 4 inches wide and weighs from 14 to 16 ounces and is pear shaped

Some other varieties are the Bluestem, Graham, Betty, Fairchild, Kissimmee, and Hortus Gold.
