Hawaii has 3 wholesale grades or standards for Hawaiian grown Papayas, Hawaii Fancy, Hawaii No.1, and Hawaii No.2.

Hawaii No.1 consists of Solo-type papayas which are mature but not over ripe, clean, well trimmed, meet soluble solids requirements, fairly well formed, fairly smooth, and which are free from decay, breakdown, internal hard lumps, brown spot, scars, disease, insects, mechanical, or other means.  The weight of each papaya shall be not less than 14 oz. nor more than 32 oz. in weight.
