Bosc Pear The origin is in
dispute. One view is it originated in Belgium, but Andre Leroy in his
Dictionare Pomologie of 1867 says it is of French origin, named in honor
of Louis Bosc, an eminent French horticulturist. Robert Manning and
William Kenrich introduced the variety into the United States in 1832.
The variety was catalogued by the American Pomological Society at its
first meeting in 1848.
