The Japanese Prawn or Kuruma prawn is a variety of shrimp. The Kuruma, was among the first shrimp species to be cultured. They are also referred to as prawns because of their large size. Kuruma's are chiefly consumed by the Japanese where they can cost $80.00 a pound, who use them in a dish called dancing shrimp, in which the shrimps are served alive on a pile of steaming rice on which they appear to be dancing.
