Excel 986  developed in Texas and California in 1945 from the Yellow Bermuda.  The tops and necks of the Excel are smaller than those of Yellow Bermuda and are an earlier variety than the Bermuda.  The flesh is fairly firm, crisp, and very mild in flavor.
