PMR 45 is a Hales Best type cantaloupe, but with firmer flesh.  The fruits are slightly oblong, 6 x 5inches and weigh 3 to 5 lb. and are covered with moderately coarse net.    The flesh is firm, thick, salmon orange, with a small dry seed cavity.    The release of the PMR45 revolutionized the cantaloupe industry as the first variety of cantaloupe that could be harvested when mature, yet arrive in eastern markets in good condition.
