Shot placement has an effect on the quality and yield of
the meat form the animal. Meat from game killed instantly without stress
is more tender as chemicals released when the animal is frightened is
absent. These chemicals like adrenalin make the meat tough and
gamey. A poorly placed shot can rupture the stomach or intestine
tainting the meat or damage choice cuts. Shots should be attempted when
the animal is standing still and aimed at the heart or neck to quickly
drop the animal with less meat yield loss.
