Dry Plucking

Grabbing only a few feathers at a time pull them gently in the direction in which they grow.  Pluck over a bag or paper to minimize the mess and clean up time.

Use pliers, if necessary, to pull out the wing and tail feathers. Some hunters cut off the outer two joints of the wings; little meat is lost.

Singe any downy feathers or "hair" with a gas burner or fire.

Cut the head and tail off the feathered bird.  Slice off the feet and remove the tendons.  Clean the body cavity and pat the bird dry.
