Coffea Robusta (coffea canephora) discovered in 1898 in Congo, Africa it is easier to
care for than
Coffea arabica and hence is cheaper to produce. Coffea Robusta
accounts for approximately 25% to 40% of the coffee grown in the world. It grows well at low elevations and
is less susceptible to disease than the Coffea Arabica and resembles a
shrub rather than a tree. Since arabica
beans are considered superior, robusta is usually limited to lower grade
coffee blends as a filler.
