Wonderful or Red Wonderful is the principal commercial variety of pomegranate.  The fruit is large, glossy, and of deep red or purple color. On well cared for trees the fruit will range from 2 to 5 inches in diameter.  the flesh and the juice is deep crimson in color, the seeds are tender, and the red arils with in which are contained the seeds, are used for salads, punches, and fine dishes.  Most of the trees are located in the San Joaquin valley.  This variety came to California in 1896 where it was planted near Porterville from Florida.

Other varieties used in Florida Rhoda and Purple Seed.  Other varieties are the Paper-Shell which has a very thin skin and the Spanish Ruby which is juicy with a sweet aromatic flavor
