Zahidi
The
translation
is
unclear
but
it
is
thought
to
mean
nobility
or
"of
small
quantity".
This
variety
was
introduced
into
the
U.S.
in
1902
from
Iraq
by
Fairchild.
This
variety
is
the
most
common
in
northern
Iraq.
The
fruit
is
yellow
in
the
khalal
stage
and
has
a
distinctive
obovate
shape.
The
size
is
34
x
40
mm
long
and
23
x
25
mm
wide.
The
skin
is
thick
and
tough
and
tends
to
adhere
to
the
flesh,
and
loosens
only
slightly
during
curing.
The
flavor
is
not
outstanding
with
the
flesh
being
fibrous
to
hard.
