A leathery necked barnacle with a flattened animal at the end. They attach themselves to floating objects such as logs and seaweed. The term goose barnacle is sometimes used as in ancient times it was thought that geese came from these crustaceans. the Goose Barnacle is very popular in Portuguese seafood Cuisine where they are called Perceve. These barnacles can be eaten raw but are usually steamed or grilled and dipped into melted butter. The stalk not the body is consumed and when cooked the tough outer skin easily slips off before eating. |
